The first formula of Couto toothpaste was registered in the city of Porto on June 13, 1932, by Dr. Alberto Ferreira Couto, director of pharmacy. The doctor, helped by a dentist friend, created a toothpaste, with the intent of limiting the widespread cases of gingival inflammation. The success was guaranteed thanks to the quality of the product so much that, even today, the elderly Portuguese say "Couto Paste" as a synonym of toothpaste. The production is still in the hands of the last heir of the Couto, Alberto Gomes da Silva to whom all the family secrets were handed down so that the special formulation would not be lost. Couto was among the first to pass from the hard and irritating powders to a smooth paste with a delicate glycerin base. Mint flavored, it is pleasant on the palate and above all it is effective in preventing mouth problems, it does not contain fluoride or parabens. The packaging is still the original one, with a touch of retro design that has become its trademark factory, Couto is today a story of international success.
