This journey starts from one of the most incredible and mysterious places that Italy hosts or perhaps it would be better to say hides: Matera known as the city of Sassi, precisely because of the peculiarity and uniqueness of its historic center. Excavated and built close to the Gravina di Matera, a deep gorge that divides the territory in two, the Sassi di Matera, districts that make up the ancient part of the city, extend into two valleys, which face east, slightly subordinate to the territories surrounding areas, separated from each other by the rocky spur of Civita. This enviable position has effectively made the city invisible to the eyes of its enemies for millennia, allowing it to pass almost unscathed through centuries of history. The Sasso Barisano, facing north-west on the edge of the cliff, if we take Civita as a reference, the heart of the old city, is the richest in sculpted portals and friezes that hide its underground heart. Sasso Caveoso, which faces south, is laid out like a Roman amphitheatre, with cave houses descending in steps, and perhaps takes its name from the quarries and classical theatres. Together they form the ancient urban nucleus of Matera, declared a cultural landscape by UNESCO. A place that most of all those we have visited could resemble the inhabited Moon that we dreamed of exploring as children. From a small window overlooking the valley, an enormous red moon appeared and from the skylight, due to the perspective effect it produced, one had the sensation that it was close at hand. In fact, opening it with the palm facing upwards gave the real sensation of being able to support the indecipherable satellite. From this touching experience comes a perfume extract with a dark character like the phenomenon just described. A perfume that at first encounter seems almost pandering and graceful, but a moment later it kidnaps you forever.
